Migraine is more than a painful neck

Migraine can include throbbing head pain, nausea and sensitivity to light or sound. Some people experience aura. A stiff neck can occur too, but that does not establish the neck as the cause of the migraine.

Keep medical management in the picture

Migraine care may involve medicines for attacks and prevention, along with attention to triggers and routines. Discuss frequent, worsening or difficult-to-control attacks with your medical clinician. A clinic visit about neck symptoms should not replace that care.

What to bring to your visit

Bring a headache diary if you keep one, your medication list and any previous assessment. Tell Dr. Koser whether the neck symptoms occur only during attacks or also between them. Explain what you want help with, rather than feeling you need to choose a treatment in advance.

When you also have neck symptoms

We can assess a separate neck or movement concern alongside the migraine care you already receive. Bring your diagnosis, medication list and any treatment recommendations so Dr. Koser understands the full picture. Clinic care for your neck should fit with your medical plan; it is not a promise to prevent or cure migraine.

A new warning sign should not be dismissed

Do not assume a sudden, extremely severe headache or new weakness, speech difficulty or loss of vision is your usual migraine. Seek emergency help. The headache guide covers warning signs to take seriously.

Before you visit

Your questions, answered.

Can I stop my migraine medicine if I start chiropractic care?

Do not change prescribed medication based on this page. Discuss medication decisions with the clinician who manages your migraine.

Can I ask about neck pain even if I already have a migraine diagnosis?

Yes. Bring your existing diagnosis and care plan so that a separate neck concern can be considered in context.
